background
Doug Gaynor has worked in the dietary supplement industry since 1990. Before Nusentia he was a technical advisor, brand manager and VP of Marketing at one of the largest dietary supplement companies selling to health care practitioners, and he has worked in pet nutrition since 2004.
Nusentia began in 2011, started by a small group of dietary supplement professionals who also loved pets. Digestive health was an area of special expertise for the group, and they saw it as one of the greatest needs in dogs and cats.
Over the years Doug has talked with thousands of pet owners. Most of their questions are about digestion, such as diarrhea and constipation, followed by the changes that come with age, like weight loss and joint stiffness.
hands-on experience
Throughout his career Doug has worked with some of the top companies and scientists in omega-3s, probiotics, enzymes and nutraceutical research, and has helped develop more than 100 nutraceutical products. He worked with these same groups to develop the Nusentia line.
Doug selects Nusentia's manufacturers himself, choosing partners with proven quality standards. Those manufacturers take part in industry organizations and hold a range of quality seals.
At home Doug has two dogs and a cat: Nikki, a Husky mix who has been with the family for more than 14 years; Cupcake, a 13-year-old Lhasa Apso the family recently adopted; and Sharky, a domestic shorthair who came to them as a stray two years ago. The dogs currently take probiotics and joint formulas to help with the challenges of their age.

Every article on The Pet Digest follows the same process:
- Research. Articles start from peer-reviewed veterinary and nutrition research and established veterinary references.
- Citations. Claims about health effects are linked to their sources.
- Review. Doug reviews every article before it is published. We are working to add a licensed veterinarian as a medical reviewer; articles they review will show "Medically reviewed by" with their name and credentials.
- Updates. We aim to review health articles once a year, and sooner when the research changes. The "Updated on" date shows the latest revision.
- Corrections. Spot an error? Contact us and we will review it promptly.
